Director


Prof. Lee is a member (academician) of theChinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a fellow of the Academy of Sciences forthe Developing World (TWAS). He is the Founding Director of FUNSOM, the Dean ofthe College of Nano Science & Technology (CNST) at Soochow University, theDirector of Collaborative Innovation Center of Suzhou Nano Science andTechnology (NANO-CIC), and the Director of Institute of OrganicOptoelectronics, Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute. He was aSenior Research Scientist and Project Manager at the Research Laboratories ofEastman Kodak Company (U.S.A.), a Chair Professor of Materials Science and theFounding Director of the Center of Super-Diamond and Advanced Films (COSDAF) ofCity University of Hong Kong.


Prof. Lee’sresearch interest is in nanomaterial and nanotechnology, and has madeoutstanding contributions to the fields of functional nanomaterials anddevices, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technology, and diamondand super-hard thin film technology. He was awarded the Humboldt SeniorResearch Award (Germany) in 2001 and a Croucher Senior Research Fellowship fromthe Croucher Foundation (HK) in 2002 for the studies of “Nucleation and growthof diamond and new carbon based materials” and “Oxide-assisted growth andapplications of semiconducting nanowires”, respectively. He also won theNational Natural Science Award of PRC (second class) in 2002, 2005, and 2013for the above two research achievements and “Organic Optical FunctionalMaterials for High Efficiency Photoelectric Conversion”, respectively. He wasawarded the 2008 Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress ofHo-Leung-Ho-Lee Foundation and the 2012 Suzhou Mayor’s Award.

 

Prof. Lee’sresearch has resulted in more than 1100 peer-reviewed publications inprestigious chemistry, physics and materials science journals, 9 book chaptersand over 20 US patents, among them 6 papers were published in Science andNature (London) and some others were selected as cover papers. His publicationshave received more than 45,000 citations by others with an H-index of 110. Hewas listed as one of ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ in the field of MaterialsScience by Thomson Reuters in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Prof. Lee has been awardedover 30 research projects in Hong Kong, with total funding over 60 million HongKong dollars from HK Research Grants Council and Innovation and TechnologyFund. He has been a PI or co-PI of a number of projects from the NationalHigh-tech R&D Program (863 Program) and the National Basic Research Program(973 Program) in mainland China.

 

Prof. Lee hasserved on the editorial board in a number of science and technology journals.He is an associate chief editor of ACS Nano and Diamond and Related Materials,an associate chief editor of Applied Physics Letters (2006-2014), the regional editor for Asia ofPhysica Status Solidi (2004-2007), member ofeditorial board of New Carbon Materials and Journal of Materials Science &Technology, and member of advisory editorial board of Advanced FunctionalMaterials and Applied Nanoscience. In addition, Prof. Lee is anadvisory/guest/honorary professor of over 15 universities and institutes inmainland China. He is advisory professor of Fudan University, honoraryprofessor of Shandong University and Central South University, adjunctprofessor of Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, guest professorof Institute of Physics, CAS and Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanicsand Physics, CAS, and guest professor of Peking University, Shanghai JiaotongUniversity, Jilin University, Zhejiang University, and Dalian University ofTechnology.
